Indigenous advocates have welcomed Federal Government plans to establish a new First Nations Advisory Body that will help develop policies on ways to reduce violence in our communities.
It’s hoped the new group will ensure Indigenous women’s voices will be elevated in the county’s new National Plan to end Domestic Violence.
Women’s safety advocates say the advisory body couldn’t come at a greater time with First Nations women 32 times more likely to be hospitalised due to family violence, compared to non-Indigenous women.
Human Rights Lawyer and Noongar woman Dr Hannah McGlade spoke to NITV and says the previous action plans weren’t in-depth.
