A justice coalition in Western Australia is calling on the State Government to publicly commit to reforming the youth justice sector.
Social Reinvestment WA, which represents more than 70 organisations, issued a written letter to the Government prior to the relocation of children from Banksia Hill Juvenile Detention Centre to the adult maximum security Casuarina Prison.
The letter called for a number of reforms including the implementation of trauma informed plans for treating and rehabilitating the children, develop pathways for coming out of detention and invest in community based alternatives to detention.
Lulkbudia Mclean from Social Reinvestment WA says they also want to see the age of criminal responsibility raised to the age of 14.
