A Larrakia elder has called for support to overturn the federal government’s approved land clearing of 132 hectares set aside for defence housing at Lee Point in Darwin.
Elder Eric Fejo says the Northern Territory is becoming an “open ground for parasites that come in and just take everything out.”
Last month the federal environment minister Tanya Plibersek approved the clearing in Darwin, despite posing a significant risk to the endangered Gouldian Finch.
Works have ceased on the site until July 17, unless the environment minister intervenes.
