Labor has pledged $22 million in funding for a dedicated birthing on country centre on New South Wales South Coast as both parties continue to campaign around the nation.

The Birthing on Country Centre of Excellence would be established and maintained under the care of Waminda South Coast Women’s Health and Welfare Aboriginal Corporation, which has been operating for 38 years as a provider of culturally and medically safe services for First Nations women and families.

Wiradjuri woman and Shadow Minister for Indigenous Affairs Linda Burney spoke to NIRS about the pledge, she says the centre will play an important role in delivering culturally safe healthcare for women and their children.
