The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social Justice Commissioner has welcomed an investment from the Federal Government which she says will help drive leadership and self-determination among First Nations women.
Last Week, the Federal Government announced an investment of $2.8 million over three years to go towards the Wiyi Yani U Thangani Women’s Voices project undertaken by Commissioner June Oscar.
Through the project, the Bunaba woman travelled the country speaking to First Nations women in urban, regional, and remote settings to hear their voices and aspirations.
Her findings came together in a report released in 2020.
The funding will be used for the final stage of the project and Ms Oscar says she will be chairing a national First Nations women’s summit which is expected to be held towards the end of next year.
