A one-of-a-kind NBA video game inspired shoe has been launched by First Nations artist Allan McKenzie who hopes it will improve the lives of Indigenous Australians.
Wiradjuri/Gamiloroi artist Allan McKenzie was approached by 2K Australia, the publishers of the video game NBA 2K22, and was asked if he could apply his artwork to a pair of basketball shoes to be sold at an auction for charity.
Mr McKenzie as asked to nominate a charity to benefit from the proceeds and he chose Red Dust.
Red Dust do a lot of work with youth in regional and remote communities and he says charities like Red Dust do a lot of good work without recognition.
Wiradjuri/Luritja man Jonathan Lindsay-Tjapaltjarri Hermawan is the Chief of Operations for Red Dust and says the money raised will go towards employing workers in communities.
He spoke to NIRS about what they do and how extra funding can help them.
