Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has this morning announced the question that will be put to the Australian population when they head to the polls for a referendum on an Indigenous Voice to parliament later this year.
Speaking to the press this morning, Mr Albanese announced the question as follows:
A proposed law to alter the constitution to recognise the First Nations people of Australia by establishing an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voice, do you approve this proposed alteration?
Legislation outlining the referendum has passed the Senate with multi-party support, however First Nations senator Lidia Thorpe abstained from voting.
The referendum is expected to be held between October and December.
