One of the recommendations coming from the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety calls for priority to be given to existing First Nations health services in caring for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Jody Currie is the CEO of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Health Service Brisbane which runs the Jimbelunga Nursing Centre.

While there are only about eight Indigenous nursing homes across the country, Ms Currie says it is important for our old people to be in a familiar environment.

She says it is important that the Government implements this recommendation.
