Community elders from Wujul Wujul have formally adopted two servicing Queensland police officers currently stationed in their community.

The adoption process of officers John Melandri and Wil Devlin into the Kuku-Yalanji clan included a traditional cleansing, smoking and giving of traditional names.

Acting Sergeant Melandri says cultural integration is the key to policing within the region.

He says working in a remote location like Bloomfield River can be challenging at times so building relationships and establishing community trust is essential.
