Teenage mothers in the Northern Territory are saying they have been left in limbo after being told by the State Government that there is no guarantee where their special education program is concerned.

Caitlin Bakewell, 18, a student of the Pregnant and Parenting Education Support Program through the Open Education Centre in the Territory attends the course with 12 other young mums.

The program, which is primarily delivered online, includes a four-hour support session where the girls are encouraged to bring their babies and receive face-to-face tuition from teachers.

The program is due to recommence in two weeks’ time for the 2016 calendar year although the students have received letters informing them that the program will be taking a new direction.

Since receiving the news, Ms Bakewell has started an online petition on the Change.org website with the social justice campaign having gathered more than 25,000 signatures.
