A Melbourne artist’s rendition of Australian icons, depicting a new series of the nation’s currency, embraces prominent First Nations people, including former Australian of the Year Adam Goodes.

Dubbed ‘Straya Shrapnel’, the series of coins and banknotes, which haven’t been slated for official release, has been created by Melbourne based artist Aaron Tyler.

The hypothetical rebirth, by Mr Tyler, replaces the current images on each side of the currency with images of Australian celebrities such as Shane Warne, Peter Brock and AC DC.

The series includes Indigenous sporting stars Adam Goodes, Cathy Freeman and Nicky Winmar.

He says he considered other First Nations celebrities such as Deborah Mailman, Archie Roach and Eddie Mabo, and with more funding and support, an all-Indigenous collection could happen.

Tyler also used the currency to poke fun at Australian culture by featuring the “waiting for a mate” guy, a goon bag and Schapelle Corby behind bars.
