A former school teacher has discovered remnants of ancient clay ovens used by First Nations people on her property in central Victoria.
Julie Howard found a clay rock covered with an imprint of a hand while walking through a paddock on her property in Goornong.
Upon investigation the item was identified as a heating rock used in clay ovens.
Ms Howard has found a number of clay ovens with only one remaining intact as well as other artefacts such as a stone which is believed to be an axe.
The sites discovery shows how First Nations people used the landscape.
Ms Howard is in the process of applying for the site to be formally registered in line with the Aboriginal Heritage Act.
