Elders from a North Queensland community have welcomed two local police officers through a smoking ceremony in a bid to break down barriers between the justice system and residents.
Members of Wujul Wujul are working to end alcohol fuelled violence within their community and have adopted two local police officers into the Kuku Yalandji clan giving them permission to do their job on Country.
Kuku Yalandji Elder Aunty Kathleen Walker says the process is about healing and mutual respect.
