The North Australian Aboriginal Justice Agency is calling for more research on justice activities before responsible policy decisions are made.

An overrepresentation of Indigenous people in the prison system has prompted calls for the Prime Minister to set justice targets.

The abundanceof Indigenous people in jails around the country has been labelled a “national shame” with First Nations adults 15 times more likely to end up behind bars than non-Indigenous people.

The Justice Agency’s principal legal officer, Jonathon Hunyor, says adequate data is needed to properly assess the nature of the problem which is something that is currently lacking.
