A cultural tourism program set to start in North West New South Wales is expected to provide jobs and other economic benefits to the Mutawintji people within a matter of weeks.

The program, a result of efforts to boost tourism in the region, is anticipated to increase self-determination by reducing the reliance on State Government funding.

The program will include cultural workshops, yarning circles and bush tucker nights.

Local guides will start training within the next few weeks to offer walking tours of historic sites.

Deirdre Sammon from the Mutawintji Local Aboriginal Land Council says the program will start small but with hopes to grow and eventually offer accommodation for extended stays.
