A non-government child protection organisation is calling for a greater focus on kinship care in situations where children are being removed from their families.
The call comes as the child protection act is currently being reviewed under the new Turnbull government.
Executive Director of PeakCare Queensland Lindsay Wegener says Kinship care is important because it allows a child to be placed with extended family without risk of losing cultural and family values.
Mr Wegener is calling on governments to listen to the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
