The family of a First Nations woman who was shot by West Australian police are demanding to know why non-lethal tactics weren’t used.

The 29 year old woman was shot by police during a confrontation on Tuesday night and later died in hospital.

While it is believed the woman, who has been dealing with mental health issues, was reportedly carrying a knife, friends and family took to the streets to call for answers as to why a taser or pepper spray wasn’t used.

Yamatji woman Charmaine Green, who was at the protest, says the community has a right to know what happened

Sandy Davies from the Geraldton Regional Aboriginal Medical Service says that the woman’s family called the police to help her and now they say they will never call the police for assistance again.
