The Federal Government has announced $35 million to go towards supporting Indigenous women and children experiencing domestic and family violence.
The announcement come with the release of the Government’s Fourth Action Plan of the National Plan to Reduce Violence Against Women and their Children.
Funding will go towards continuing and expanding services and programs from the previous plan as well as family case management in remote areas and areas of high need.
The Wiyi YaniU Thangani women’s voices project run by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social Justice Commissioner, June Oscar will have access to $1.7 million.
The funding has been drawn from the Indigenous Advancement Strategy and will include input from an expert consultative committee involving Indigenous leaders, experts and service providers.
It comes as the Federal Government announces $328 million in funding for combating domestic violence including prevention strategies, front line services and safe places.
