A health service provider in western New South Wales says the outcome of the Indigenous voice referendum is “gut wrenching”.
The October 14 referendum vote saw the majority of Australians vote against enshrining the voice in the constitution.
CEO of the Maari Ma Health Aboriginal Corporation, Richard Weston says “the most worrying thing about the success of the No case was the level of disinformation, the bigoted commentary and demonisation of many good Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people on the Yes side of the referendum that revealed itself.”
Despite the outcome, Mr Weston says with the millions of people who supported the proposal, he’s “confident that the good will by ordinary non-Aboriginal people locally and across the nation will remain”.
