Universities across Australia have pledged to work together to increase the number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students enrolled by 50% above the growth rate of non-Indigenous students.

As part of Universities Australia’s Indigenous Strategy (2017-2020) if enrollment targets are met, an estimated 6,500 extra Indigenous students could be studying for degrees they have also set a target of equal success and completion rates for Indigenous students to non-Indigenous students in the same fields of study over the next decade.

Dean of Aboriginal Engagement and strategic projects at the University of South Australia Professor Peter Buckskin has said“ we think universities are on the trajectory to getting this right”

This is the first national agreement of its kind and it has been years in the making
