A Senate committee is examining more than 40 submissions made by the public and organisations on the remote work for the dole scheme.
The community development program (CDP) covers about 33,000 jobless mostly Aboriginal people in remote.
The program has been the target of criticism for the harsh penalties applied for missing and appointment and because those under the CDP are forced to work up to three times longer than city-based jobseekers.
MLA for Namatjira Chansey Paech says the program is a “national disgrace.”
Indigenous Affairs Minister Nigel Scullion says the program has led to 3,500 Indigenous participants landing full or part-time work since July 2015.
Public hearings remain to be held in Kalgoorlie, Alice Springs and Canberra.
