The Federal Indigenous Affairs Minister says from July 30 next year he will cease doing business with any organisations that are not Aboriginal.

The announcement came as the Minister – Nigel Scullion – announced a further $4 million in funding for the Registrar for Indigenous Corporations.

Scullion says the move, which has upset some church organisations that provide services to Aboriginal communities, is the best way to go.

Registrar for Indigenous Corporations Anthony Beven says the top 500 Indigenous corporations have increased their income by 74 per cent since 2007.

“I applaud the Government’s decision to invest additional resources into supporting Indigenous corporations. This will deliver stronger governance and therefore better outcomes for Indigenous people and communities,” Mr Beven said.

Minister Scullion also release a review into ORIC which found overall it has been doing “a good job, in a challenging regulatory environment and in the context of substantial funding decreases in funding and staffing.”
