The CEO of the Healing Foundation has welcomed the NSW government’s announcement of a $73mn reparations package for survivors of the stolen generation.

The Baird government handed down its response on Friday to an inquiry on forcible removals of Aboriginal people by outlining a package that will include one-off reparation payments of about $75,000 and funding for survivor groups.

The inquiry was established as a response to the landmark 1997 Bringing Them Home report.

Meriam man Richard Weston says the response to the stolen generation’s story has been a long time coming.
