The Indigenous Affairs Minister has condemned the NSW government for its failure to fund the Custody Notification Service.

Senator Scullion says he is “very disappointed” by NSW Attorney General Gabrielle Uptons ‘non response’ to the lack of funding for the service, which takes in 300 calls every week.

The Commonwealth has pledged to keep the hotline going for another three years with $1.6million in funding from July 2016, but Senator Scullion says he will find an opportunity to take back the money from the NSW government.

NSW Attorney General Gabrielle Upton was unavailable for comment, but said in a statement that NSW welcomed the Commonwealth’s announcement on its obligation to fund the CNS.
