Western Australian Senator and Yawuru man Pat Dodson has announced he will be taking a leave of absence for several months to undertake medical treatment.

In a statement on Thursday, Senator Dodson said his work and travel commitments during the time would be limited.

Mr Dodson is also the Special Envoy for Reconciliation and Implementation of the Uluru Statement from the Heart.

He thanked those who wished him well and asked for his privacy to be respected.

While details on Senator Dodson’s medical treatment are vague, friends and colleagues have wished him well on his recovery.
