A severe weather warning is in place for parts of the gulf country and north west forecast districts with ex-Tropical Cyclone Kirrily hovering over Bourketown.
Heavy, locally intense rainfall and damaging winds are possible from east of Normanton to west of Doomadgee, and north of Mount Isa stretching to the coast.
The conditions may be felt on Mornington Island and other Gulf of Carpentaria islands.
There are also flood warnings in place for the Central West, Channel Country and Gulf of Carpentaria catchments.
Some of the communities that may be affected are Mornington Island, Normanton, Doomadgee, Burketown, Karumba and Augustus Downs Station.
The system is expected to move south from Burketown tomorrow night.
