A subvariant of the widespread Omicron strain, has been nicknamed Eris after the Greek goddess of strife and discord.
Cases of the strain are growing in the UK and it’s now dominant in the United States.
The federal government said fewer than 100 cases had been found in Australia since April.
Deakin University’s Chair in Epidemiology, Catherine Bennett, told the ABC we might not see a surge in cases for another month or two.
