A Senate committee will this week release a report calling for an immediate ban on microbeads and for single-use plastic bags to be off-limits nationwide in an effort to reduce pollution.

The report stems from an inquiry into the threat of marine life due to plastic pollution and will call on all states and territories to initiate the ban and recommend the Federal Government steps in if they don’t.

Operations Manager for the Gumma Indigenous Protected Area at Nambucca Heads, Chels Marshall, welcomes the proposal.

She says they have several programs running to monitor the effects of plastic pollution in the region.
