For the people of North Stradbroke Island in Queensland’s south east, mining on the Island has been a controversial issue going back many years, with some of the First Nations community fighting to disband the mine due to the safety of the land and people.

On the other hand, others in the community fear a loss of local employment if the min was to be shut down.

Goenpul man, Dale Ruska who has been fighting to cease mining on his country says if his people can have autonomy over their affairs, they will have employment without the risk of hosting a mine.
