A Liberal backbencher and chair of the Coalition’s climate committee has claimed renewable energy has increased power bills to the point that “people will die” this winter.
Backbencher Craig Kelly made the claim on the ABC this morning, citing reports that one-in-four households will be frightened to turn on the heater due to high power prices.
However a report released today by the Australia Institute and written by energy analyst Dr Hugh Saddler finds “no relationship” between the two.
Executive director of the Institute Ben Oquist says there is a “direct correlation” between gas prices and large increases in power bills.
