A farmer in Western Australia’s Great Southern has begun supplying Perth restaurants with native bush foods old man saltbush and samphire.
Saltbush has been previously sourced from South Australia, but the Western Australian old man salt bush has a higher salt content.
Katanning farmer David Thompson says while he is getting a good price for the plants, there is a lot of work involved in harvesting and delivering the produce.
