The national crisis support hotline for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people has marked a major milestone – handling 50,000 calls since it was launched two years ago.

13 YARN has grown quickly, receiving 17,000 calls in 2022 and more than 25,000 calls last year.

The service’s national program manager, Marjorie Anderson, says the hotline is doing what it was made for.

“The community trust us, and to have 50,000 calls in just over two years is an incredible milestone. It’s also a sad milestone, that that many Aboriginal people need us but its’s great that we’ve got Aboriginal people reaching out.

It’s all about saving Aboriginal lives.”

13 YARN operates 24/7 and can be reached on 13 92 76.
