A senior project coordinator with the National Indigenous Disaster Resilience Project says having a token First Nations voice at the disaster resilience and recovery table isn’t good enough.
The National Indigenous Disaster Resilience Summit was held in Brisbane last week which highlighted ideas put forward by community leaders.
There is ongoing concern that First Nations voices aren’t represented well enough by those overseeing mainstream disaster resilience and recovery efforts.
Dr Emma McNicol told Bumma Bippera Media that First Nations people should be setting the table, not just sitting at it.
