Federal Labor’s agenda in the First Nation’s space extends beyond the Uluru Statement, Indigenous Affairs Minister Linda Burney has pledged in a speech at the AIATSIS summit.
In a speech delivered at the end of the week-long summit, held on Kabi Kabi country in Queensland, the newly sworn-in minister spoke of her excitement and trepidation at the scope of challenges lying ahead.
The Labor party has committed to delivering the Uluru Statement, including holding a referendum on a constitutionally enshrined Indigenous voice in it’s first term – but is yet to commit to a date.
Minister Burney outlined some of the issues in the government’s sights.
