Bruce Lee’s Fist of Fury is coming to the 2021 Perth Festival this month, but with a difference.
The classic 1970 Kung Fu film has been redubbed in the Noongar language with an all-Noongar voice cast and the help of Melbourne based artist Felix Ching Ching Ho in translating from the original Cantonese and Mandarin audio of the film.
Inspired by Navajo Star Wars, a Navajo dubbed release of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, co-creators Kylie and Clint Bracknell, a husband-and-wife Noongar team got started on Fist of Fury Noongar Daa.
The Noongar actor and artist, Kylie Bracknell [Kaarljilba Kaardn] said she hopes the project will inspire further revitalisation of the endangered Noongar language.
Kylie Bracknell [Kaarljilba Kaardn] speaks to NIRS about the project.
