The Queensland Family and Child Commission have finally appointed an Indigenous commissioner nearly two years after it was called for.

The Family and Child Commission Act 2014 called for there to be two commissioners, at least one of who “must be an Aboriginal person or a Torres Strait Islander.”

The appointment comes as the founders of an e-petition calling for the appointment of a second Indigenous police commissioner in Queensland met with Independent MPs in Brisbane this week.

Representative of the petition and Bwgcolman man Lex Wotton says the meeting was “very positive.”
