If you’re an Indigenous parent or carer, are you worrying about how you’re going to afford everything your children need for the new school year?
The Smith Family says a quarter of all of the families it supports are Indigenous.

Their most recent survey of more than 2000 parents and carers found the five biggest concerns about being able to afford school costs were:
- Digital devices needed for school work
- Out of school activities like sport and music
- Uniforms and shoes
- School excursions
- Internet access at home needed for school work.
But despite all these worries, The Smith Family also found parents and carers have hopes for their kids to –
- Get good or improved grades.
- Be themselves and become good citizens when they grow up
- Follow their dreams and goals
- Feel good about going to school and getting an education.
