Barranbinya man and former AFL player Tony Armstrong has added another piece to his trophy case after taking home most outstanding newcomer at the 62nd Annual TV Week Logies.

The Graham Kennedy Award recognises a new talent in an Australian program who has gained popularity in their first major television role.

It comes just two years after first gracing the silver screen, serving for sometime as a host on NITV’s Yokayi Footy which debuted in 2020.

Mr Armstrong has since become a mainstay of ABC’s News Breakfast program, taking over as Sports presenter from former host Paul Kennedy in 2021.

While accepting the award the former Mr Armstrong thanked his mother.

Mr Armstrong also thanked his colleagues at the ABC and the Producers of ABC Newsbreakfast, as well as thanking the National Indigenous Radio Service – Mr Armstrong being a former member of the NIRS AFL Broadcast team.
