A First Nations Artist has entered the Archibald prize, looking to be the first person of colour to win the prize in its 96 year history.

Yorta Yorta and Dja Dja Warung man Jandamarra Cadd has again entered the Archibald Prize, this year entering his portrait of acclaimed First Nations actor Uncle Jack Charles.

This is Mr Cadd’s second painting of Mr Charles who is a relative of the Sunshine Coast based artist.

Mr Cadd told NIRS that Mr Charles is a subject he draws great inspiration from.

Mr Cadd’s painting of First Nations musician Archie Roach reached the Archibald finals in 2014. He says that the responses he has received for both of the works have been overwhelming.
