The AFL celebrates the Sir Doug Nicholls indigenous round this week with the showcase game  being the Dreamtime at the G clash between Richmond and Essendon at the MCG on Saturday night.

Former Essendon and Port Adelaide champion and member of the Indigenous Team of the Century Gavin Wanganeen has been honoured with the task of creating the artwork that will adorn the footys being used across the country.

Kokatha man Wanganeen (pictured) says he’s honoured to be given the task of designing the balls for the round named for Sir Doug Nicholls, a pioneering figure for First Nations people in sport and politics.
