The Gold Coast Suns will go into the 2017 AFL season with dual captains after coach Rodney Eade appointed Larrakia man Steven May (pictured) and Tom Lynch to the position replacing Gary Ablett.

With Abletts career entering the back end, Eade says the time was right to move forward with the next generation of Suns leaders.

While he’d never previously considered himself as captaincy material, May says after he and Lynch did the job for the last seven games of the 2016 season, he’s confident the pair can lead the club into the new year and he’s relieved that Ablett will still be at the club leading the way from the midfield.
