A State Funeral for Yankunjatjara woman, Dr Lowitja O’Donoghue AB CBE DSG – the celebrated Indigenous leader who fought tirelessly for the rights of First Nations Australians. Dr O’Donoghue was 91 when she died on Kaurna country in February. Dr O’Donoghue was South Australia’s first Aboriginal nurse, first chair of ATSIC and first Indigenous Australian to address the United Nations. She is also a former Australian of the year. Her legacy will live on through the work of the foundation set up in her name.
