The NSW Aboriginal Land Council has come out in support of the federal government’s plan to target the use of ice in communities across Australia.

Land Council Chair Roy Ah-See says the drug is a nightmare for Aboriginal communities and has called for authorities to work with local Aboriginal Land Councils to identify ways to combat the scourge.

Councillor Ah-See says he supports the National Ice Taskforce Final Report recommendation to target the most vulnerable populations.

More than half of the Indigenous population in New South Wales are under 24 years and he says if we don’t act quickly and decisively, ice will damage future generations.

Councillor Ah-See says connection to land and country is the key to healing our people culturally and spiritually which is why local Aboriginal Land Councils need to be part of the solution when it comes to combating ice addiction.
